The College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University needed to refresh its position as an educator of cultural leaders. To assist a new dean in realizing her goals, we worked with faculty, staff and students to define their mission, vision and values. We then translated this strategy into a brand personality, identity system and website.

WebsiteOur challenge was to position the college’s four schools equally and ensure that the site’s design and technology would be relevant to prospective students. Social media elements and student work and ideas were the springboard for design and content. "Busy and vibrant" are two VPA verbal tools that guided conceptual design of the home page.

The site was honored with a Webby Award.

WebsiteToday there are 37 student-bloggers on the site, posting personal work and providing an authentic look at VPA. A value of VPA is to “be of our time.” We wanted to embrace social media tools beyond a “like us” or “link here,” to provide frequent updates on life at VPA.

WebsiteInterior pages allow for posts specific to each program. To avoid staid photos of students and convey the spirit of the place, we include background videos for each school to show a slice of daily life at the school.
